Let's Look at Ourselves & Lighten Up
"Anything is Possible "

By Dr. Sandy Islands for Conch Color

Richard Bach said in Jonathon Livingston Seagull, "To go anywhere in time and space, begin by knowing that you have already arrived." A famous basketball player was asked how he was able to achieve such a high shooting average, he said, "The ball is in the basket before it leaves my hand." Jesus instructed, "Give thanks for the answers to your prayers before you even see their results." Our thoughts are like magnets that attract exactly what we're thinking. This invites us to create the feeling that we already have what we want, and we need to celebrate it no matter how things look in the outer world of appearances. We all have the mind of God within, whether we believe it or not. This higher consciousness sees only good. Even atheists and agnostics have a spiritual component to their psyche that may lay dormant until inspired. When we move beyond all the unreal thoughts in our minds that cover the truth, we find what's infinite and eternal. The Course in Miracles says, "Under all the senseless thoughts and mad ideas with which we've cluttered up our minds are the thoughts that we had with God in the beginning."

My son and I are finishing up a week in Los Angeles where he's been auditioning for acting colleges. We had four days in between his second and third audition. We had no idea how we would fill those days, but we remained open to what the universal flow might bring. He suggested that we're in Hollywood; why not take a studio tour. I called Paramount and after we booked our tour for that day, the recorded prompt offered the option of being in a studio audience. I knew that these usually had to be booked months in advance, but my mind of God said that anything is possible and prompted me to try anyway. Due to the writer's strike Dr. Phil was the only show that was taping. When I finally reached a human voice, we were in luck due to cancellations and joined the audience two days later. Had I followed what "I knew," we would have missed out on a memorable experience. All of the days unfolded in this way with interesting unplanned activities to fill the time. My mind of God within led us to perfect parking spots, restaurants and navigated us through LA traffic with a sense of humor no matter whether the traffic flowed or inched along at a snail's pace. Whether we missed a turn and had to backtrack for miles or chose not to take the bypass, we made it to our destinations and cooperatively learned something about ourselves and our choices in the process.

James Allen said, "We think in secret and it comes to pass. Environment is our looking glass." The outer world is not the cause. It's the effect. External reality is a reflection of our inner thoughts, feelings, and energies. It's a total waste of energy to complain about what is or is not happening and to blame others for anything. Let's practice thinking, feeling, speaking and acting as if our dreams have already come true and feel grateful as they quickly arrive. Focusing on worst case scenarios in the future with our little minds or visualizing what we'd like to happen is like casting a fishing line into the future and reeling the exact answer into the present. The mind of God within is stronger than our little minds steeped in fear. Dr. Robert Mueller, former Assistant to the Secretary General of the United Nations tells the story of how he received a draft notice to join the Nazi army. Having studied positive thinking, he bought a big bottle of champagne and invited his friends to celebrate him not having to go into the army. He went on to escape the Nazis aided by miracles and divine intervention. Let's make a commitment to visit our dreams daily. The more we visit, the wider we build the road where the answers to our prayers fly in with gifts on their wings.
