Let's Look at Ourselves & Lighten Up
"Mind as the Heart's Servant"

By Dr. Sandy Islands for Conch Color

Our mind is divided into three sections: Sub-conscious, Conscious mind, and Higher Consciousness. Our sub-conscious is like the computer store-room of every event, thought and emotion experienced in this lifetime and others if you believe in past-lives. Our higher conscious mind is connected to our Spirit within and That Which Creates All That Is. Our conscious mind is 10% of our brain potential yet many of us rely solely on this narrow corridor for our awareness and perceptions to live our lives. This is the logical part of our mind and from its viewpoint, control and understanding are one. The truth is that this part of our mind would do best to serve our higher consciousness which is connected to our heart. The true script of our lives is written from the infinite awareness that is generated from our heart-power. The answers to healing come from the inner strength of our hearts and Spirits.

We can strengthen our positive feelings by practicing daily gratitude and admiration. We can disempower our negative feelings through practicing forgiveness, and when we see the world through the eyes of innocence, we’ll begin to honor what is already here. The conscious mind breaks things in order to fix them for a price. When the heart is in a rightful place, the mind can truly be a useful servant and ironically become blissful and brilliant. Infinity powers the heart and allows us to deal with what life delivers beyond what we thought we could. When the mind serves the heart, anything is possible. When the heart serves the mind, there’s nothing but limitation.

As I’m writing this article, a visiting family member breaks an expensive piece of equipment at a time when my husband is out of town and unable to fix it as he normally would. My reaction was fear, anger and frustration as to how she could have been so unaware. My mind wanted to go into all the reasons why she should have been aware or asked for help, etc.  Then, I return to this writing and remember that the event happened as an opportunity for me to practice forgiveness and let go. Rather than focus on what she did and what she wasn’t aware of, I need to focus on my negative reaction and the fact that it was an accident and that she didn’t do it on purpose. I can let this event ruin the rest of my day, or I can practice what I preach. I decided to apologize for my reaction and forgive her. I encouraged her to let go of her bad feelings and move on with our day.

Fear wants to take my mind to how this broken equipment will affect other outcomes in the future. Instead, I’ll trust that my heart can bring new life to any situation and open up possibilities that I couldn’t have imagined. Some might call this naïve. Yet, one percent of change is enough to make all the difference. A miracle is a change in perception. I know if I stay stuck in my judgments, I become a prisoner to them- deadlocked in my mind. The mind formulates its control around its absolutes. This is a blind spot that becomes very self-destructive and why the conscious mind can be a brilliant servant but a fatal master. We must know how to unplug it. Our higher conscious mind is fueled by Spirit which in turn fuels the heart. It’s through the oneness of spirit that the miracle of prayer, the power of dreams, visions and prophesies can work. In spirit we are unified as one human family, sharing a common awareness that seeks enlightenment and the highest good for all.
