The universe loves a Divine pretense. We pretend we’re great even if we don’t feel that way sometimes. When we act as if we’re worthy to receive all our good, we honor our passions and act as if we love ourselves. Underneath the charade may be feelings of unworthiness, but these come from the lies we tell ourselves. Let’s look at the roles we’ve taken on because we become what we lead others to believe we are. Our history has hypnotized us into believing we’re less than whole which is the lie. We incorporate words like, “can’t, aren’t and won’t” in our vocabulary about ourselves. We slowly give up believing in ourselves by weaving a shadow that becomes a net where we get trapped. No matter how lost we feel, our greatness is held in trust until we remember who we really are.
Have you heard the expression, “Fake it til you make it?” This means we act like the people we’d like to be. We deceive ourselves when we act smaller than we are. When we act unworthy or unlovable, we deny our right to be spiritual masters. If we tap into the universal truth and power of our hearts, we magnify our beauty and learn to walk in the dignity of our highest and most loving nature. It’s only our small minds and limited thinking that build our houses of limitation. There are no walls except when we allow our belief systems to close us in. Let’s open the windows and replace the walls with wide open vistas. We must practice acceptance of how glorious we can live and be. We expand adding rooms to the house until we see the entire universe as our home. Just like the internet, we’re all connected by a cord of spiritual energy. A Native American friend of mine shared a very powerful Set Aside Prayer: “God, set aside anything I believe, that I may have an open mind and a new experience.”
We pass through the world in earth school. It’s not our final destination. As we let our limiting belief systems go, we move into bigger mansions of opportunity. Our beliefs are not the peak of the mountain. They are merely stepping stones to the summit where we can stretch our wings and fly. If we camp out on plateaus for too long on the way up the mountain, we’ll get stepped on by other climbers and miss out on the vista at the top. Life provides challenges to wake us up to the fact that we’re stronger than we think we are. They’re an invitation to be great or at least act as if we are. Let’s start by welcoming the people in our lives who ask more of us than we ask of ourselves. Our real friends value us for living our truth much more than wearing masks and facades. They want us to reach our full potential.
Eventually, when we choose to walk the road to higher consciousness we realize we had it all the time! Some arrive sooner, some later. Some arrive by the path of pain and some through joy. Some come alone and some together. In the end the path is not as important as the arrival. Alan Cohen says, “Now that you know it, you will live in this world not as a prisoner, but as an artist. The canvas is before you and by the hand of grace, it is made new and clean. Paint upon it the true colors of your heart.” Please write to Dr. Sandy Islands at sandyislands@hawaii.rr.com
