Wisdom is so much more than knowledge and intelligence. Wisdom is an inner knowing of the truth. We experience wisdom through our higher consciousness and feel it in our bodies. In the film, “The Holy Mountain,” a group of seekers spent years searching for wisdom. They approached a summit and saw a dozen figures gathered in white robes illuminated by the glow of the setting sun. They were shocked to find that the robes and hoods were empty. They realized that their search had brought them there to don the robes themselves. The wisdom and mastery they’d been searching for was within all along. Buddha said, “If you do not get it from yourself, where will you go for it?” The endless search for wisdom is a distraction from the truth because we are already wise. True masters stir awareness of our own divinity within. Wisdom marks the end of searching and the beginning of sacredly expressing our truth in life and for the planet.
Wisdom doesn’t mark the end of pain, but creates the ability to flow peacefully no matter what life brings. It’s not life that makes or breaks us; it’s what we make of life that determines our destiny. Wisdom comes when we mine the diamonds hidden in our problems. When life hands us rocks, we can polish them into gems. We have a choice in every life experience to grow or to stay stuck in old patterns and beliefs. We will attract the same lessons over and over until we gather the wisdom, courage, self-love and willingness to stop suffering and respond differently. Let’s not hunt for molehills to turn into mountains. When we interpret what life brings through the lens of gratitude, we’ll trust that everything is unfolding as it’s supposed to. We become open to different flavors of people and value the new perspectives offered which we may not have considered on our own. Walls come down. Love and community expands. We develop patience.
We deny ourselves wisdom when we judge others before we listen to what they have to say. We need others who make mistakes so we can understand that we’re all human and can still be lovable when we make them too. Wisdom doesn’t compare, compete, minimize, or disregard. It neither fawns nor worships. These extremes disrupt equality. Any activity is a door to wisdom. Let’s recognize and apply wisdom to what brings us joy rather than indulging in what removes it. We hear wisdom from our still, small voice within. The Divine Spirit speaks to us while we’re waiting rather than rushing ahead into decisions or actions. We bring heaven to earth by constantly holding heaven in our minds and hearts. Our wisdom joyfully celebrates the wonderful adventures that Spirit brings into form.
Money is not the answer to our prosperity problems. Wisdom is the answer. No amount of money will help if we don’t know how to use it wisely. Studies have shown that most lottery winners revert to their original level of prosperity within five to ten years. In The Serenity Prayer, we ask God to grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can and the wisdom to know the difference. When we accept everything just as it is, we become the masters we seek to find. Please write to Dr. Sandy Islands at sandyislands@hawaii.rr.com and have a divinely inspired day.
